Programs for Children

Summer Programs and Workshops

Seating at most programs is first-come, first-served, except for groups of 10 or more, who must register in advance by calling 367-8710. Workshops are limited in size and all participants must register in advance to attend. Our program schedule is subject to change, so call the library for the most up to date program information.

Workshop: Clay Pinch Pots
Learn to make a clay pinch pot to take home in this one-hour workshop for kids who have completed first grade and up. Registration is required and begins June 1 at 8:45 am. Limit 20 participants per session.

An Ostrich Named Emu
Songwriter and guitarist T. Wilson King will present this entertaining story for the whole family with humor, sing-a-longs, and audience participation. Registration for groups of 10 or more begins June 9 at 8:45 am.

Make-It-And-Take-It Mask-Making Craft
Use the ingredients we have on hand to create your own mask at this drop-in, make-it-and-take-it workshop for elementary school-aged children. Preschoolers may participate with parental help. Groups of 10 or more should call in advance to schedule a start time. Registration for groups of 10 or more begins June 15 at 8:45 am.

Discovery Mime Theater
Brian Begley and Mary Inman will enchant and entertain the whole family with simple stories, slapstick comedy, and animal characterizations told in pantomime. Registration for groups of 10 or more begins June 23 at 8:45 am.

The Library Circus Puppet Show
Things get out of hand at the library when circus performers take over with lots of wacky acts, including a snake charmer, stilt-walker, Snorus the Buffalo, Milton the Magnificent Monkey, and Joey the Clown's cannon act. Registration for groups of 10 or more begins June 30 at 8:45 am.

Workshop: Scarf Marionettes
Learn to make and manipulate a string puppet made from a scarf in this 90-minute workshop for kids who have completed first grade and up. Registration is required and begins July 6 at 8:45 am. Limit 15 participants per session.

Trickster and the Troll
Heartland Opera Troup will present this rousing, participatory opera based on the children’s book by Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve. Registration for groups of 10 or more begins July 14 at 8:45 am.
